toppers
When I was young, we played a game that was called "The King of the Hill". It was a simple game of a person being on top of a mound and everyone else trying to get up there to claim the title. Now sitting around telling tales takes on some of the same attributes. No matter what story you tell, someone will always have one better. The experts at this are considered "toppers" and are extremely proficient at the skill. I always thought I had good stories, but never topper worthy. One day that changed with a long tale of a hawk breaking through a window, ending up in my house , and removed by a professional falconer. I relayed the story at the break table feeling a since of accomplishment, when one of the "toppers" mentioned a story of a small airplane crash with the pilot and a dead eagle inside. Once a body bag is mentioned all topping must cease for the day. I know someday my time will come with that really perfect story. Until then, blogs from the break table will go on.
